On March 20, after an overhaul the Volgograd Iron and Steel Works “Krasniy Oktyabr” put into operation its arc-furnace No. 5.
The furnace was halted for repairs in September 2016.
The outdated transformer machinery was disassembled and the new transformer by ABB Transformer AB (Sweden) assembled in the furnace.
The repair will improve the furnace efficiency by decreasing smelting time by 20-30% and increasing the number of smeltings to 9-10 per day.
The project cost 500 million rubles. (Ukrainian metal)
