The Beloretsk Iron and Steel Works, a part of Mechel, has concluded a contract to buy a steel rope mill in Germany.

The new machinery will allow producing 22-90 mm diameter ropes used in lifting industry, bearing elements of hanging bridges, coal and mining industries, as well as ship-building and oil-and-gas extraction.

At present no other company in Russia manufactures such products.

With the new mill BMZ will be able to produce up to 15 thousand tons of steel ropes per year. That is enough for 6 thousand quarry excavators with the rope diameter of 57 mm.

The machinery has to be delivered by the end of Q1 2018. The first products are expected to be manufactured in January 2019.

The total cost of the project is 510.6 million rubles. (Ukrainian metal)
