In 2016 Kazakhstan produced 325.5 thousand tons of raw zinc, up by 0.5% YoY.

The local demand increased by one third, to 38.7 thousand tons, while exports dropped by 3.2% YoY, to 259.4 thousand tons.

The East-Kazakhstan region yielded the most of raw zinc – 325.4 thousand tons. Karaganda region produced 66 tons.

The Kazakh institute of industry development forecasts that by 2030 zinc consumption will grow 1.4 times compared with 2015.

Increase in car manufacture will create an additional zinc demand of 2.4 million tons in 2030 and 3.6 million tons in 2050.

The main consumers or Kazakh zinc are China (33.3%), Turkey (30.8%) and the Netherlands (15.3%). CIS countries import some 11.3% of zinc. (Ukrainian metal)
