In January 2017 Ukraine will produce 2 million tons of steel, 2 million tons of pig iron and 1.8 million tons of rolled metal, according to Ukrmetallurgprom.

For December the company forecast 2 million tons of pig iron, 2.1 million tons of steel and 1.8 million tons of rolled metal.

In 2016 Ukraine is expected to produce 23,6 million tons of pig iron, 24.2 million tons of steel and 21.4 million tons of rolled metal, all up by 8%, 6% and 4% YoY respectively.

In November Ukraine produced 1.9 million tons of pig iron (average daily output – 63 thousand tons), 1.9 million tons of steel (64.8 thousand tons) and 1.8 million tons of rolled metal (59.8 thousand tons).

Low output level in the last 4 months results from the problems with iron ore raw materials supplies as well as overhauls at some companies,

As of December 13, 23 out of 27 blast furnaces (85%), 17 out of 21 converters (81%), 7 out of 9 open-hearth furnaces (78%) and 5 out of 16 electric-arc furnaces (31%) were in operation.

In January-November Ukraine produced 21.6 million tons of pig iron, 22.2 million tons of steel and 19.6 million tons of rolled metal, all up by 9%, 6% and 7% YoY respectively.

In November Ukrainian iron ore raw materials supplies reached 2.4 million tons, down by 100 thousand tons MoM, with 26.3 million tons supplied in January-November, up by 11% YoY. Iron ore raw materials imports totaled 90 thousand tons, up by 50 thousand tons MoM, and 1.4 million tons in 11 months, down by 15% YoY. Exports reached 2.8 million tons in November and 34.6 million tons in 11 months, down by 17% YoY.

By-product coke plants received 450 thousand tons of Ukrainian coal in November, down by 20 thousand tons MoM, or 5.4 million tons in 11 months (on the last year level). Coke imports reached 880 thousand tons in November, down by 40 thousand tons MoM, or 10.7 million tons in January-November, up by 17% YoY.

All in all in November Ukrainian by-product coke plants received 1.3 million tons of coking coal, down by 60 thousand tons MoM, or 16.1 million tons in 11 months, up by 11% YoY. Import share totaled 66% (63% in 2015). Coal stocks in November decreased by 50 thousand tons, to 350 thousand tons.

Metal makers received 830 thousand tons of Ukrainian coke in November, down by 40 thousand tons MoM, or 9.9 million tons in 11 months, up by 12% YoY. Imports dropped to 110 thousand tons from 125 thousand tons in October, and totaled 1.1 million tons in January-November, down by 9% YoY. All in all Ukrainian companies received 11 million tons of coke, up by 10% YoY.

In November metal companies received 270 thousand tons of scrap, down by 50 thousand tons MoM, or 82% of their need, with 2.9 million tons received in 11 months, up by 2% YoY, or 83% of the need. Scrap stocks decreased by 5 thousand tons to 155 thousand tons.

Ukraine exported 12 thousand tons of scrap in November and 252 thousand tons in 11 months (1.2 million tons January-November 2015).

Metal companies consumed 156 million cubic meters of gas in November, up by 10 million cubic meters MoM. Average daily gas consumption totaled 5.2 million cubic meters.

In January-November metal makers consumed 1.55 billion cubic meters of gas, down by 16% YoY. Average daily consumption dropped to 4.6 million cubic meters from 5.5 million cubic meters in 11 months of 2015.
