According to Russian Trade Statistics data, the pig iron exports in May jumped significantly higher when compared with the exports during same month a year before. Also, the exports registered a significant increase from the previous month.

Russia’s pig iron exports totaled 445,673 tons in May. The total exports were up by 33.7% YoY. Also, pig iron exports in May increased sharply by nearly 15% MoM.

The largest importer of Russian pig iron in May was the US with 280,574 tons. The exports to the US increased sharply by 12.2% when compared with the exports of 250,089 tons during the prior month. The exports to the US accounted for 49.5% of the total pig iron exports by Russia during the month. The second largest importer was Italy. The imports by Italy surged higher significantly over the previous month total of 32,573 tons to 55,126 tons in May. Slovenia came third with 28,566 tons. The other key export destinations of Russian pig iron were Taiwan (20,456 tons), Germany (17,703 tons) and Turkey (12,638 tons).

The cumulative pig iron exports by the country during the initial five-month period in 2016 totaled 2.026 million tons, up by 7.6% YoY. The top export destination of Russian pig iron was the US. The exports to the country totaled 1.002 million tons, accounting for 42.17% of the total pig iron exports during this period. The exports to the US witnessed a jump of nearly 26% YoY. The other key importers in January-May were Spain (306,317 tons, 16.3% share), Italy (205,324 tons, 10.9% share), Turkey (126,080 tons, 6.7% share) and Germany (103,351 tons, 5.5% share).

According to statistics published by the Customs Committee of Russia, monthly exports averaged at 405,000 tons during the first five months of 2016. The top two importing nations accounted for more than 50% of the total pig iron shipments out of Russia in January-May.
